Making Our Voices Heard
The Art of Successful CAA Story Telling
August 18, 2009 from 2:00 - 3:00 pm eastern time
The Community Action Partnership and the National Association for Community Services Programs (NASCSP) is pleased to offer a webinar on Making Our Voices Heard: The Art of Successful CAA Story Telling. This session will feature NASCSP’s Jenae Bjelland, Director of Research, and Jovita Tolbert, Director of Program Services, who will preview NASCSP’s new CAA Story Telling Guide and provide participants with some tips and tools they can use to make their voice heard by telling an informative and compelling story.
Narratives or stories can bring a Community Action Agency’s (CAA’s) work, challenges, and successes to life. Stories are essential communication tools for helping the public, your partners, and your potential funders understand how a CAA works toward its many goals as well as the goals themselves. Stories evoke images and suggest your organization’s style and character.
Fortunately, recent research about how the public understands poverty tells us a lot about how to choose topics and how to write effective narratives. NASCSP, with the assistance of Economic Opportunity Studies, has distilled that research into a guide to writing a CAA narrative that will be as powerful as the real events and the concrete results.
