PurposeComprehensive Community Action Program provides case management programs through the Doric Center. DescriptionComprehensive Community Action Program (CCAP) offers a wide range of mental health and personal services through the Doric Center. Services are offered under the case management and residential care programs described below. Youth SuccessYouth Success is a school and home-based enhanced case management program for pregnant and parenting teens. Home visits are also conducted. The goal is to help adolescents under the age of twenty to make important decisions and plans that lead to personal and economic self-sufficiency. Services include pregnancy and parenting education, education and job training assistance, referrals to community resources, individual and group counseling, and pregnancy prevention workshops. The importance of male responsibility is also addressed and volunteers are recruited to serve as mentors. Pre- and post-tests developed by Daniel Memorial are used to determine changes in attitudes and behavior. The Youth Success program is funded by the RI Department of Human Services. Job Training and Educational ProgramsCCAP operates several job training and educational programs for out of school youth and young adults. Learn To EarnThe Learn To Earn Program is Rhode Island's largest GED and JOBS program for youth – Learn To Earn flyer. Programs are located in Providence Place Mall and the RI DLT One Stop in Providence and Pawtucket. There are also other locations in Warwick, Pawtucket, West Warwick and Cranston. Learn to Earn Staff works with Rhode Island high school drop outs ages 16 and over. The Pawtucket programs will also work with youth still in school. State-of-the-art learning environments are offered to foster quick acquisition of a GED. Comprehensive vocational assessment is also available that leads to job training programs that complement the GED program. Partnerships have been developed with local companies that have agreed to hire program graduates. Customer Service & Sales TrainingRetail sales associates and customer service employees are people with specialized knowledge and the skills needed to provide the highest level of service. Training is provided at the Providence Skills Center based on standards developed by a team of retailers, educators and other professionals under the leadership of the National Retail Foundation. The Customer Service and Sales Training Program can help participants gain the skills necessary for a career in retail sales. The four-week program includes:
Participants who successfully complete the four week program will receive a Customer Service & Sales Certificate. CVS Pharmacy Technician Job TrainingCVS Pharmacy has built a mock store on site at the Providence Skills Center to train people to become Pharmacy Technicians. Pharmacy Technicians help licensed Pharmacists provide medication and other healthcare products to people. Technicians usually perform necessary tasks to help prepare prescribed medication. The CVS Pharmacy Technician Certification is a 12-week, 144 hour training program. Class times are Monday through Friday from 6PM to 9PM. All classes are held at the Providence Skills Center. Participants must be 18 or over and a BCI check and successful drug screen are required. Upon successful completion the certification will help graduates find employment at one of the 35 CVS stores in Rhode Island. The Providence Skills Center is located at the Providence Place Mall. The Skills Center is a Partnership between Comprehensive Community Action Program, Workforce Solutions of Providence/Cranston, The Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce and The National Retail Foundation. CVS Photo Technician Job TrainingPhoto lab technicians provide customers with accurate and complete film and photo finishing services and are fully trained to operate the one hour photo lab equipment based on the following job description:
Located at CCAP’s Warwick Skills Center, 3027 West Shore Rd, Warwick, this training is a six week training program that operates Monday through Thursday from 6-9pm. Enrollees will be trained by CVS Photo Lab employees. Family Care Community Partnership (FCCP)The FCCP is a statewide, integrated, family-focused; community based system of care for children and families at risk for abuse and neglect and has behavioral health needs. CCAP is part of a multi-agency partnership in two regional provider networks: The Urban Core and Northern RI Region. Discharge PlanningDischarge Planning assists minimum-security inmates in planning for transition back into the community. Caseworkers help inmates design discharge plans ninety days prior to their scheduled releases and follow them for sixty days following release. Services include assessment, information and referral, groups, workshops and advocacy. In addition Discharge Planning staff conducts parent education and supervised visits at the RI Department of Corrections. RI State Training School Substance Abuse Treatment & EducationATOD education, preventative and individual and group counseling treatment is offered to male and female residents. All programs and services are developmentally and culturally appropriate and are designed to engage hard to reach youth. Gender specific programming will be provided to female residents. All programs and services are based on best practice research from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s Center for Substance Abuse Treatment as well as other current research in the identification, assessment and treatment of adolescent with substance abuse problems. New Opportunity Homes (NOH)CCAP is the lead agency is a statewide voluntary residential placement program for pregnant and parenting teens and their children who cannot live in their homes due to issues such as abuse, neglect, and other high-risk circumstances. NOH afford young parents and their children the opportunity to live in a safe and nurturing home like setting. NOH facilities are located in Providence (Urban League) and CCAP operates Bradford House in Cranston, a twenty-four hour, year round residence. Four young women and their children are housed at Bradford House. Parent Education ProgramThe Cambodian Outreach ProgramProvides home-based outreach and education to Cambodian families with the primary goal of promoting positive parent-child interaction and improved life coping skills. Assistance is also given to identify and access culturally competent services providers and/or programs. Victims of Crime Prevention Program (VOCA)The Victims of Crime Program (VOCA) Funded by the RI Justice Commission, the VOCA Program provides clinical case management services to persons who have been victims of crime. Services include home visitation, crisis intervention, consultation, and referral & information sharing - VOC flyer. Youth Diversionary ProgramThe Client Database SystemThe agency uses the CAPTAIN software system as its client database for record keeping and reporting purposes. This system also includes Family Self-Sufficiency Scales to monitor client progress and program outcomes.
