Purpose

Mentoring is an element of ROMA National Goal 1: Low-Income People Become More Self-Sufficient as reflected in benefits to mentors, in addition to a growing number of studies that have revealed significant associations between youth’s involvement in mentoring relationships and positive developmental outcomes.

MENTOR/National Mentoring Partnership

MENTOR/National Mentoring Partnership was established to expand the world of quality mentoring. MENTOR works with a strong network of state and local Mentoring Partnerships to leverage resources and provide the support and tools that mentoring organizations need to effectively serve young people in their communities.  Items available through MENTOR include:

Mentoring Resource Center - U.S. Dept. of Education

The Mentoring Resource Center MRC) serves as the training and technical assistance provider for the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools' mentoring grantees.  Items available through MRC include:

Virtual CAP Mentoring Program Postings

  • The Northcoast Mentor Program is a program of Redwood Community Action Agency (CA) that promotes a community ethic to guide youth toward becoming productive and capable adults. 
  • Across Ages Intergenerational Mentoring Program is an intergenerational mentoring program working to increase the protective factors for high risk youth in order to prevent, reduce, or delay the use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs and the problems associated with such use. 
  • Young Men in Development is a mentoring program for youth ages 8-18 to provide the N.E.E.D. for the next generation (Nourishment, Encouragement, Education, Direction). 
  • Community School Initiative improves the academic, emotional, and social awareness of middle school youth. 
  • Bridges to Success provides former welfare recipients with access to credit and transportation, as well as other services that can help remove barriers to work and self-sufficiency.
